Companies House search in AccBooks

AccBooks gives you real-time access to the Companies House register from within the platform — no need to visit a separate website.

Go to Companies House → Search and enter a company name or registration number. AccBooks searches the live Companies House API and returns matching results instantly.

What you can look up

For any UK company on the register, you can see:

  • Company name and number — the legal registered name and 8-digit CRN.
  • Registered office address — the official address for legal correspondence.
  • Status — Active, Dissolved, Liquidation, etc.
  • Company type — Private limited, PLC, LLP, Charitable company, etc.
  • Incorporation date and accounting reference date.
  • SIC codes — the standard industrial classification of business activities.
  • Directors and secretaries — current and historical officers with appointment/resignation dates.
  • Persons with Significant Control (PSC) — beneficial ownership information.
  • Filing history — all documents filed at Companies House, downloadable as PDFs.

Pre-filling your own company details

When you first link your company to Companies House under Settings → Companies House, AccBooks pre-fills:

  • Legal name
  • Registered address
  • Incorporation date
  • SIC codes
  • Director details

This saves time and ensures your AccBooks records match the public register.

Checking a supplier or customer

Before entering a significant contract with a new supplier or customer, use the Companies House search to verify:

  1. Is the company active? A dissolved or struck-off company cannot enter contracts.
  2. Who are the directors? Verify the person you’re dealing with is actually a director.
  3. What’s the filing history? Late accounts or missed confirmation statements can indicate financial difficulty.
  4. Ownership structure (PSC) — who ultimately controls the company? Important for Know Your Customer (KYC) obligations.

Monitoring changes

Set up company watch alerts in AccBooks for any company:

  1. Find the company in Companies House search.
  2. Click Watch this company.
  3. AccBooks sends you an alert whenever that company files anything new at Companies House — accounts, director changes, charges registered, etc.

Useful for monitoring key customers, suppliers or competitors.

Charges (mortgages and fixed charges)

Company charges (loans secured against company assets) are also registered at Companies House. Go to a company’s profile and click Charges to see any outstanding charges — useful when assessing credit risk.

Companies House API integration

AccBooks uses the Companies House official API. The data is updated in real time as Companies House processes new filings. This means you’re always looking at the most current public information.

Personal data protection

Director information (name, nationality, date of birth — partially redacted in most cases) is publicly available at Companies House. AccBooks does not store this data internally — it fetches it live from the Companies House API each time you search.
