Reconnecting a bank feed

ByAccBooks Team · · 2min read

Why does a bank feed disconnect?

Bank feeds disconnect for one of three reasons:

  1. Consent expired — Open Banking regulations require re-authorisation every 90 days.
  2. Bank infrastructure change — your bank updated their Open Banking API or security certificates.
  3. Password change — if you changed your online banking password, the existing connection may invalidate.

AccBooks emails you when a feed disconnects and again 7 days before consent is due to expire. You can also see the status of all feeds under Bank feeds.

Re-authorising a feed

  1. Go to Bank feeds in the left sidebar.
  2. Locate the account showing Disconnected or Consent expired.
  3. Click Re-authorise.
  4. You’re redirected to your bank’s secure authorisation page.
  5. Log in with your bank credentials and approve the reconnection.
  6. You’re redirected back to AccBooks. The feed resumes and any missed transactions are backfilled automatically.

The whole process takes under two minutes for most banks.

Backfilling missed transactions

When you re-authorise, AccBooks fetches transactions for the period since the last successful sync, up to a maximum of 90 days back. Transactions older than 90 days may need to be imported manually via CSV.

To check what was backfilled, go to Bank feeds → [your account] → Activity log. You’ll see a timestamped record of every sync attempt and how many transactions were fetched.

If re-authorisation fails

Some banks have intermittent issues with their Open Banking infrastructure. If the re-authorisation redirects you back to AccBooks with an error:

  1. Wait 30 minutes and try again.
  2. Clear your browser cookies for your bank’s website and try again.
  3. Try a different browser.
  4. If the problem persists, contact AccBooks support — we monitor bank API health and can advise on known outages.

Replacing a feed with a CSV import

If re-authorisation continues to fail, you can keep your books up to date by importing your bank statement as a CSV:

  1. Download your statement from your bank’s website.
  2. Go to Bank feeds → Import CSV.
  3. Upload the file. AccBooks auto-detects most bank CSV formats.
  4. Review the preview and confirm.

AccBooks will automatically skip any transactions that already exist in the ledger to avoid duplicates.

Removing a feed permanently

If you’ve closed a bank account or switched banks:

  1. Go to Bank feeds.
  2. Click the three-dot menu next to the account.
  3. Choose Remove connection.

Historical transactions are retained in AccBooks. The account’s nominal code is archived but can be restored at any time.
