Overview

Companies House is the UK’s official registrar of companies. Every UK limited company and LLP must file certain documents each year — including annual accounts and a confirmation statement. AccBooks integrates directly with Companies House to help you meet your filing obligations.

What you must file

Setting up Companies House integration

  1. Go to Settings → Companies House.
  2. Enter your Company Registration Number (CRN).
  3. Click Look up company. AccBooks fetches your company details from the Companies House API — name, registered address, SIC code, officers, and filing history.
  4. If the details look correct, click Confirm and link.

AccBooks now monitors your Companies House filing deadlines and alerts you in advance.

Filing annual accounts

Once you’ve prepared your statutory accounts in AccBooks, file them to Companies House directly:

  1. Go to Reports → Statutory accounts.
  2. Prepare your accounts for the relevant period.
  3. Click File to Companies House.
  4. AccBooks submits the accounts via Companies House WebFiling.
  5. You receive a confirmation reference number immediately.

For small companies and micro-entities, AccBooks generates the abbreviated/abridged accounts format automatically. Directors don’t need to file a P&L at Companies House — only the balance sheet is required.

Confirmation statement

The confirmation statement (previously the annual return) confirms that your company’s information held at Companies House is correct. It’s a simple yes/no check — you’re not reporting new financial data.

The confirmation statement covers:

  • Registered address
  • Principal business activities (SIC code)
  • Directors and secretaries
  • Shareholders (PSC register)
  • Share capital

In AccBooks: Go to Companies House → Confirmation statement. AccBooks compares your current company information against the last filed record and highlights any changes. Click File confirmation statement to submit.

Cost: £13 per confirmation statement (online filing).

Tracking your filing history

Go to Companies House → Filing history to see a complete record of all documents filed, including accounts, confirmation statements, director changes and share allotments. You can download copies of any previously filed document.

Director changes

When a director is appointed or resigns:

  1. Go to Settings → Company → Directors.
  2. Add or remove the director.
  3. Click File change with Companies House. AccBooks files the AP01 (appointment) or TM01 (resignation) form automatically.

Registered office changes

Go to Settings → Company → Registered office and update the address. AccBooks files the AD01 form with Companies House automatically.

Strike-off risk

Companies House can strike off a company that fails to file. AccBooks sends alerts when deadlines are approaching and when you’re overdue. If your company has been struck off, contact AccBooks support — we can guide you through the restoration process.
